What it is worth

  • Merged schemeA 20% expenditure credit on qualifying R&D costs for accounting periods from 1 April 2024, taxable, so worth roughly 15p to 16p net per £1 spent.
  • Loss-making, R&D-intensiveEnhanced R&D Intensive Support: a payable credit worth up to 27p per £1 of qualifying spend where R&D is 30% or more of total costs.
  • Time limitTwo years from the end of the accounting period. A missed year is gone.
  • What qualifiesStaff costs, subcontractors, software, consumables and cloud computing spent resolving a genuine scientific or technological uncertainty.

How it runs

A 30-minute call about what you actually did. We say no when the answer is no.

Claim prepared

A named specialist adviser writes the technical narrative and the cost schedule and signs the claim, as HMRC now requires.

Filed and paid

Filed with your Corporation Tax return. Our fee is a percentage of the benefit, taken when it lands, never before.

Common questions

Our accountant says we do not qualify.

Accountants are often right, and often cautious. The test is whether you tried to achieve something technically that was not readily deducible by a competent professional. We check it properly and put the answer in writing either way.

What if HMRC enquires?

The named adviser who prepared the claim handles the enquiry at no extra cost. Claims are written to withstand one, which is why the eligibility check comes first.
